I just picked up a dozen bags today. Apparently Carl is looking to get some sort of stitching machine to seal plastic bags. Says he's never been busier.mattya wrote:I don't think there are any yet, but he told me he was working on that when I went there last year. They were working on getting plastic bags so that it could be sold in stores, most likely at a mark up though - Maybe $6-7 instead. Still cheap though.fmzip wrote:Are there any places in Mass that sell this stuff or do you have to go direct to the facility?
I hope if that does happen, we're still able to pick it up right from the source for $3.50.

I met him last Saturday at 11am, not sure if he came in just for me, or if he was working. He seems very flexible.

Carl called me back. He's got a guy picking up a ton at noon, then I'm picking up ~1500 lbs at 1:00pm Saturday.
Sounded like a real nice guy over the phone.

Necro-thread revival:
Anyone been yet this year?
Does Carl have plenty in stock?
Thinking of getting a pallet this year, as my local HD does not sell Milo anymore.

Re: Current BayState Prices
By the way, that pallet price of $175 is the same as the per-bag price of $3.50 per bag. (50 bags on a pallet...)
Kind of neat to see from this revived thread that the price is unchanged since 2013 - still $3.50 per bag, and bags are still 40 pounds each...

Re: Current BayState Prices
I've been buying it by making an annual road trip / pilgrimage to the "factory" in Quincy, MA. Each year, I've brought back between 35 and 45 bags in my Ford Expedition, depending upon my needs for the year and sharing plans. As mentioned above, the price is $3.50/bag, which works out to $175 for a pallet of 50 bags (2000 pounds). Definitely worth the trip compared to paying for Milorganite at big box store prices.

Good to know if I’m going to be driving through the area can plan ahead.
Not sure I’d drive south through Boston for it but if I’m the area could pick up a bunch of bags.

Re: Current BayState Prices
Finally/Hopefully getting a chance to head out there Wednesday.
The milo shortage of 2019 is putting my lawn into dormancy for the first time in about 6-8 years.

Call the day before planning to go. Last time I called, about two weeks ago, they were all out and didn’t know when they would next be bagging.
I still haven’t picked up my 2019 supply and haven’t been able to apply any for about two months. Lawn is showing it, despite my having substituted some other fertilizer.

Re: Current BayState Prices
Carl called me back. Picked up 30 bags yesterday. Spoke to the receptionist there briefly, she said Spring is crazy for them, but it has settled down recently. They had a few pallets sitting there in the warehouse, not sure if they were claimed.
Still $3.50 a bag, best deal on the planet.
Not sure why all of New England doesn't get their fertilizer there, once word gets out I think they will.
Since the last time I went years ago, they've moved from paper to plastic bags. Very happy since we got caught in a down pour on the way home.
Oh, and yes, the place is still just as hard to find as it always was.

Re: Current BayState Prices
Glad to hear you picked up some Bay State. Given that he has some in stock again, I need to figure out if there's a day next week I can take a half-day off from work and make a trip down to Quincy. I really wish I had some Bay State to put down a few weeks ago!

Re: Current BayState Prices
I drive down from Maine (500 mile round trip) every year for a pallet. It was late June due to availability. Price has not changed. I saw some dude dissing Milo on You Tube due to phosphorous. I do 3 apps a year (37k) and the lawn loves it. I'm not concerned about it.

Re: Current BayState Prices
I did make my annual trip to Quincy for Bay State Fertilizer a week ago today (29 July 2019) to purchase 40 bags -- a total of 1600 pounds for $140.ken-n-nancy wrote: ↑July 19th, 2019, 10:33 amI need to figure out if there's a day next week I can take a half-day off from work and make a trip down to Quincy. Will probably wait until next week to put it onto the lawn, as mid-August tends to be the time to start gently waking the lawn up for fall here in New Hampshire. Days are getting shorter and cooler already -- overnight low at our camp in Maine was 56F last night.
