Anybody have any thoughts on fixing/resurfacing a garage floor?

Post by southern-ct-4 » August 12th, 2019, 11:30 am

This is now what probably more than half my garage floor looks like: https://Broken image.com/a/Ajmep

Do resurfacers (https://www.familyhandyman.com/masonry/ ... age-floor/) work well?

Do I need a 'concrete professional' (like a driveway company)? Even for a do it yourself type of repair (like the resurfacer) I would have to have my handyman/a small contractor handle it as it's above my skill level plus I simply wouldn't trust myself to do it right/I don't have the time...

I did get an estimate from a masonry company a few years ago to "resurface the garage floor" for $2,400. I wasn't present when he came for the estimate so I don't know exactly what it entailed, nor do I have a detailed estimate from them. I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if they'll come out again.

Any thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated!

I can't see the pic to your current situation. My dad did his about four years ago. He used a really good concrete patch for the pitted spots. Then finished it with this. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum- ... lsrc=aw.ds

It looks amazing! (sorry for the super long link.)

Thanks and for some reason I can't get the Broken image link to work.

I've embedded the pics instead.

Thanks again.

I'm no expert, but I think you're going to need more extensive work than what I suggested.

Now with that being said... Muahahahaaaaa..... I'm a do-it-your-selfer. I'd do a lot more research, of course. But I typically don't park my cars in the garage. My truck is too big, and I have too much stuff. I'd look into recoating the entire floor with a REALLY good self-leveling agent. Then use the epoxy I referenced about.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Look up a product called Mg Crete. It works.
http://www.imcotechnologies.com/

I had some rough patches and the areas that sat under the garage doors of my old house that had started crumbing.

Stuff is amazing. I even epoxy coated afterwards. Wish I had taken pictures.

What's the cause of that floor being in such rough shape? Is it really old?

In my last house we had a low spot filled with leveler and than epoxy was professionally applied. Very expensive but It looked good for the 6 years I lived there.

No idea of the cause. I assume it's original to the house (1969). Maybe just poorly installed in the first place? Maybe too much road salt over the years left on the floor? We moved here 7 years ago and it was basically like this from day one. We don't park in the garage (we did the first 1-2 years we moved here) but, if we did, I assume it would be even worse by now.
