Is fall happening or not??
I know technically it just started but daaaaaaaaang. Where is fall?? Its still upper 80's here and should be for the next 10 days out. I haven't even noticed any trees thinking about changing colors or droppings leaves. I dropped some seed for repair spots but held half and dropping again in 2 weeks. I know its not ideal but a rolling seed down date is my best play right now based on previous years experience.
I feel like I'm gonna get skipped over with fall and just head into a bitter cold winter.
Anyone else in a similar situation?

Me. Been dry for 2 weeks and the turf browned out everywhere. 90s. Finally some rain supposedly tonight.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the end of the hotter/humid weather here. Trees are changing a bit, but it's from stress due to lack of rain as much as anything else.

Re: Is fall happening or not??
Its KILLING me!! Granted, I haven't paid as much attention to weather and rain as much as this year and last, but I do not remember the lack of rainfall from August until now. I think I have gotten maybe 2 days of a steady, soaking rain, since the end of August. The rest has been passing showers or flash storm downpours.
Haven't been able to really fertilize, with a lack of an irrigation system. I usually wait until the day before a good scheduled rain day, but have had almost nothing above a 50% chance in the forecast. Unreal. Luckily, for my repair areas, I have purchased some liquid fert from Simple Lawn Solutions and have been able to hit those spots. But the rest of my yard is still waiting in limbo to be fed.

LOL. Been keeping the hellstrip on the sidewalk watered.....tired of dragging the hose. Been watching the weather forecast like a hawk since Labor day. Feels like it's been like zero precip, aside from the morning dew

Re: Is fall happening or not??
No rain in sight for the next 10 days and we haven't seen a drop of rain for the last week or so. Only morning dews.
I just dropped seed on my new house. Hoping for the best. It's late for KGB seed and no rain but irrigation is on to keep it from drying out.

We’ve had about 1.25 inches of rain in the last 35 days. Non in the forecast either. Leaves falling from stress, as Andy remarked.

No end in sight to the heat for me. Not a drop of rain either, my water bill is going to be HIGH this month.

I have no idea what the insect looks like. It looks like a medium sized cockroach with wings...
Anyhow, it's been so hot lately, these particular ones have been coming back everytime I've put the hose on it. Not only do they swarm to the surface water, but I've got holes in my seeded hellstrip bed. They actually have been burrowing away at the wet dirt.

Re: Is fall happening or not??
I'm in the same boat. Dropped seed on Sept 1-2 in southwestern IL. The St. Louis area has had something like 45 90 degree days this year...with 10 of them this September. We have had only two significant rainfall events, one a week after seed down, and one on Sunday. It will be high 80s and a day of 90 one .ore time from next Sunday-Wednesday. Luckily I had irrigation with timers, so almost everything came through. Had a few spots of fungus which I quickly knocked out, so I will be reseeding those few areas after this heat, and hoping October is slightly warmer than usual to get those spots filled in.

Re: Is fall happening or not??
Southern New Hampshire we had two frosts last week.
Super dry and I had backed off on watering and then the dry spell hit. Playing catch up and few spots losing Color.
We have rain chances every other day but no sustained rain in the future.

Re: Is fall happening or not??
It's crazy here - I have Norway Maples that have lost half their leaves (and Norways are almost always last). The Hudson Valley has a gorgeous Fall Foliage season, but the leaves are turning a funny yellow and then brown a few days later, and falling. I've been in this home for 33 years and have never seen a Fall like this.

Very dry in central Ohio. Sounds like we’re all in the same boat

Re: Is fall happening or not??
The weather sure has been wacky this whole year
Maybe this weather pattern is the -new norm- . Who knows...
Some of my annual flower beds, I've had to replant from scratch. Very wet spring, original plantings stunted or root rot.
Lawn loved it though
Last year, every weekend, we we're saucing up tomatoes in two 15qt pots. This year, the only tomato's we had was a platry few cherries.

Have a maple out front. The leaves have just been drying up and falling. They usually dont start dropping till mid October.

Cool the last couple of days, but upper 80s and 90s coming back. Crazy stuff. I can't recall anything like this. Haven't had more than a sprinkle in 6 weeks or so either.
