Out of curiosity, how many times did you mow this year?

This is especially for people in/around CT, as I assume you had similar weather to me this past year.

Ok, thanks, so I'm not completely crazy (like my neighbors tell me). 43 for me.

Just did a quick count. About 40-45 times. Most definitely under 50 times, but I'm not done yet...one more real mow left to go on some areas, and then a few more for leaf mulching still.

Actually mowing "sessions", probably more like 100.

I've got probably 1 more, maybe 2. 1 to get the rest of the leaves, and maybe 1 more if there's any more growth after this one/to get any further leaves that blow in from my neighbors who still have 1 tree with a chunk of leaves to go...

Also, out of further curiosity, what is a 'mowing session'?

ses·sion
noun
2.
a period devoted to a particular activity.

Some people with larger lawns mow their lawn over multiple sessions, potentially on separate days.

Yeah, I almost never do it all the same day. Just not enough time. It's better to get the exercise on multiple days, anyway. Each session is anywhere from a half hour to three hours, so that means I probably ran the mowers for about 150+ hours this year.

39 times for me, and I tried a robot mower (Robin Autopilot) for a month. Without that, it probably would have been ~46.

I've never thought about the number of times I cut my lawn total, however, I do know that I'm out there about every 3 days. I do know, however, that I've put 47 hours on my tractor this season. Subtracting out a few hours that were for other activities like hauling mulch and fertilizer, let's call it 45 hours total. It takes approximately 45 minutes to cut my lawn, so that makes about 60 times I cut my lawn between mid-April and mid-November.

So far I think I'm the winner.....maybe......or the loser, depending on your point-of-view.

30 times...68 hours...planning to mow (chop leaves Wednesday) for mow #31... probably 1 more chop leaves session after that.

I didn't keep track, but probably 5-10 times.

If you live in the desert and are willing to trade looks for water conservation, grass doesn't grow very fast.

I've mowed 44 times so far this year on Long Island, putting about 40 hours on the mower. I still have about 1, maybe 2 leaf mulching sessions left. Not to mention, I've got my eye on the 6 bags of leaves in front of my neighbors house...

So far, it sounds like ~45 times is about average, though the sample size is small. I know that some of my 45 or so mows were overgrown...it would probably have been more like 50-55 mows if I had always mowed at the optimal time.

Probably makes sense to specify whether or not you irrigate. I do not, well outside of dragging out the hoses a couple times in Sept. I came up with 29 mows this year give or take a couple. Which averages to about once a week. More specific, every 4-5 days in spring, but only about once every two weeks in Aug-Sept.

Bumped into this thread while catching up now that I'm thinking about the lawn again...

Couldn't resist diving into our lawn care spreadsheet to see how many times we mowed each year. Also decided that having done so confirmed the benefit of learning more over the years, as the lawn continues to look better each year, and is doing so with less mowing. Below are the number of times we mowed our front lawn in each of the years below:

2015: 44 mows
2016: 52 mows
2017: 44 mows
2018: 39 mows (reduced number due to renovation in fall eliminating the need for mowing)
2019: 37 mows (first year after renovation to "compact" KBG (Bewitched/Prosperity blend), replacing prior northern mix)

It's nice to have some concrete feedback that we saved time on mowing last year!
