Urea Down...heavy rain...do it again?

Post by dantis496 » November 25th, 2019, 9:18 am

Hi All,

I put down my winterizing dose of 46-0-0 on Saturday (2 lbs per k) and thought I had it planned nice with rain showers prdicted for Sunday. The rain showers turned into 1.3" of rain in about 10 hours. Some heavy downpours. Do you think my application is ok (terrain mostly flat) or should I re-apply this coming weekend for most benefit in the Spring?

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Subject should be "do it AGAIN?"

No, 1.3 inches over 10 hours should be completely fine (assuming you didn't apply to frozen ground). The real issue is summer thunderstorms that dump an inch or more an hour.

No need to reapply. Not to mention that it hard to imagine your yard even usefully taking up 2 lbs / K as a winterizer app. What's the rationale on such a heavy application at season end?

Thank you...It was 2lb per k of 46-0-0, so 1 lb of N per K as recommended by all the experts here

The rationale is that the grass has stopped growing yet the roots are still sucking up and storing nutrients. They will soak all this up then release/use it in the spring.

And another rationale: Andy says to do it :)

Okay, right 1 lb of N per K. Yes, that makes more sense. I'm dropping to 0.5 lbs per K this year...we'll see if I notice a difference in the spring.

Dantis, since I knew you wouldn't sleep for weeks over that typo, I fixed it -- new responses will pick up the corrected title.
