Prodiamine - Did I buy the wrong type?
I was at SiteOne last week and asked for Prodiamine. I have never used this before and was surprised when I looked at the bag this morning. I was expecting a 0-0-7 and was surprised by the 13-0-5 on the label.
I normally let the grass waken on its own and am hesitant to use this before checking here.
What are thoughts on this mix?
Thanks in advance.
Gordon

Re: Prodiamine - Did I buy the wrong type?
That is a product meant for fertilzing at the same time as applying Prodiamine. At the stated 6.2 lbs/K application rate, it will deliver about 0.81 lbs/K of Nitrogen. The Nitrogen is polymer-sulfur coated, so it is most likely slow-release, but that is considerable Nitrogen for a lawn that is not or is just awakening.

When I checked a few weeks ago, my local SiteOne did not have 0-0-7 granular Prodiamine. But it's worth asking yiurs if they do when you bring it back if granular is what you want.
Of course, at the very lowest prodiamine application rates (e.g. a 2 + 2 lb/K split app), 13% Nitrogen would would only apply around 0.25 to 0.3 lb N, and a lot of that would not be immediately available anyway. But if someone is dropping a higher rate at one time as Andy implicated, it could be too much Nitrogen for a healthy, mature lawn that was well-fertilized the previous Fall.
Of course if you're going to spray, this is all inconsequential.

Re: Prodiamine - Did I buy the wrong type?
Thanks Green..i followed the aggressive nitrogen program last fall and knew the lawn had some healthy stores in the root base.
They did give me a similar explanation as you mentioned when i went back today. They said that while it was urea, it was not all immediately available.
I was able to exchange it for Dimension 0-0-7.
I get a sense they are selling it to landscapers "by the truckload" as i was told, as it was about $3.00 cheaper per bag than Dimension ($30 vs $33), and there would be more green up than Dimension

Yeah. And the landscapers are most likely generally only going to put down maybe 3 lbs/K of that 0.37% Prodiamine product on many of their residential properties. This allows them to cover for approx 4 months to allow for reseeding in August and September, and reduces the amount of product they have to carry and apply. Done that way, they're only applying 0.39 lb of N, which is not likely to be too much for many of those properties, since they didn't get an aggressive Fall program. And as you mentioned, a part of that is slowly available. I've learned that this is how these guys operate in general. And it tends to work just fine, just not that extra level of quality like you got by applying more in the Fall and none in early Spring. Some of them even do split apps like I was talking about in the previous reply.
Glad you got the Dimension 0-0-7. I use the 0.15% version at 4 lbs/K to last roughly 4 months.
