Seeding after pre-emergent and glyphosate
Hey guys just a quick question, I applied Prodiamine early April and decided roundup some patches of possible Triv yesterday. Would it be safe to lay a bed of topsoil over these areas and reseed at the moment or do I have to wait? I’m started to question my original plan of laying a bed of topsoil, seeding, and then top dress with peat moss. I hope between the premergent and the glyphosate I don’t have any issues. Thanks

Prodiamine will prevent the roots from growing past it. If you place topsoil, the grass will germinate, but roots won't grow below the new soil and will struggle. A better option would be to pull plugs from elsewhere in the lawn and transplant them into the dead spots.

Too big of an area to do that, what if I rough up the soil with a dethatcher?

Dethatcher may help, but I wouldn't count on it though I don't have personal experience trying it. You probably need to break up the top 1-2 inches of soil to be sure you have broken down the Prodiamine barrier. How big an area are we talking about?

I would say at least 500 sq ft, I rented a dethatcher today and did the best I could with it. Lesson learned on this one for sure! Worst case scenario I will live with the look until early Sept. and overseed or do a reno which was my plan anyways. Wish me luck, I’ll post the results in due time...
