Late to the party, but still going to give it a go.....Well actually there is no turning back now. (I am not following the best practices of a renovation....so be easy on me)

Backyard, mostly shady, TTTF, approx 3500 sq ft

Temporary fence set up (2 dogs) 8/12
Red cap round up with tracker sprayed 8/13
Seed ordered 8/13
30% 4th Millennium SRP Tall Fescue
10% Valkyrie LS Tall Fescue
30% Traverse 2 SRP Tall Fescue
30% Titanium 2 LS Tall Fescue
Going for 7-8 lbs/1,000 sq. ft.

This weekend/early next week
test watering equip. Hoses sprinklers and timer
Possibly scalp
Check on my tenacity amount
Order more blue tracker
Calc and Plan to buy peat moss

Re-read my old threads and others to refresh my memory

Scalping completed. Down to level 1 on the 30in ride owner. Forget how dirty scalping was....lost count of how many times I had to empty the mower’s bags....certainly recall how dirty the tossing of peat moss is....but forgot about the scalping dust clouds...receiving rain today so that starts the shortened fallowing of only 1 week I will do. So my tenacity application better be on point....plan fallowing all week....glyphosate next weekend and seed down shortly after. ( maybe same day or following day) will topcoat with peat moss...will not be in using a roller...so plan to wet ground, and drop seed...using drop spreader
But need your help
Should I:
a) drive my ride on mower to try to increase the seed to ground contact
B) top dress with peat then a)
C) do not drive over at all as too much seed would be disturbed / picked up by tires

Thanks

2nd round of glyphosate generic applied on 8/19.

Big day was today,
1)Ran my 4 sprinklers to give the soil a bit of moisture
I am using a 4 zone timer with 4 hoses running throughout the yard and 4 different sprinklers
2)then Removed all the hoses so I can seed
My drop spreader which has not been used for 5 years would not close, so had to use my broadcast spreader
3)Sprayed thrive over entire area
4)Covered seed with soil moist
5)Dropped seed 6-7 lbs per 1000 sq ft
6)Tossed 4 bales by hand of 3 cu ft of peat moss
7)Rode around the area with my ride-on mower for 1/2 hour to get some seed to soil contact with the softened soil from the earlier watering
8)Reset up the sprinklers and began to retest the coverage and recheck what the timer should be for each zone
5 min for this area, 10 min for The next 2 and as I was starting to test the final one, mother nature decided to drop a 1/2 inch of rain....So ensured coverage was good on that one and called the day completed.

Next up flash lights at night around day 4.

Forgot to add in the above post that I dropped
1/2 rate of Scotts Starter Plus Weed Preventer (Mesotrione) before spreading the peat

Had more rain in the last 2 days than what I feel I received the entire summer...received just over 2 inches of rain in a 24 hr period ...not a good start to the renovation...have streams of peat moss throughout the yard as to where the excess rain fall dissipated throughout....hoping the seed stayed put will find out in the coming weeks

That's looking good! A lot of people are skeptical of the practice of seeding into a glyphosated, scalped, dead lawn without going to "bare soil" everywhere. It's one of the practices that I've only really seen encouraged on this site. I think it's a great technique for folks that already have decent soil and are looking to change grass type or get more uniformity. It has always worked for me. I'm glad to see that it's working for you, too!

Keep up the good work!

Have the urge to walk the yard and look closer to see the effects of the heavy rain the first 48 hrs after seed down had. Definitely have areas that are thinner than others, and have to verify if water or seed...that’s need an adjustment... Approaching 14 days this weekend and I know the leaves will be falling soon covering a large area of renovation. So definitely want to get additional seed down in the thin areas. Rain today and tomorrow...so will do my best and delay this until Sunday. And make any sprinkler adjustments at that time too.

Sadly the timemaster has a broken belt and too lazy to rent borrow or buy a new mower, so used the 30in ride on for a first cut...remember my first post I said I was not going to use the best practices... so rode around slowly with HOC of 2.5in...had some saturated areas which I imagine will have some damage. Will overseed next week and drop the rest of my starter(as I dropped half rate on seed down)

Day 18
Now for the money eye level shots. Makes it look a lot better, when not adding photos from my deck.

For the most part, the lawn bounced back nicely

But then I have the area which is 100% shade, this area was little to no grass year after year. Was very wet, but very tall. Really need to dry this out.

Nice progress! It’s going to be great from what I can see. The difference between day 11 and 18 after a mow is amazing. I’m on day 11 right now and hoping for the same progress and figuring I’ll do my first mow around the same time.

week 6, i decided to change to watering once a day, since i made that change the drought i have had, has changed to daily rain, nothing significant but negates the desire to get the roots to search for deeper water rather than at the surface

did not cut this past week

day 40 pictures
rain and wind came through last night and dropped a lot of leaves.....

Looks so good tonight Monday.

I put the sprinklers away on Thursday.
Gave it a nice cut on Sat. With the 30 in tractor.....did have to use the leaf blower - as did have some matting from the tires.
the lawn rebounded quickly in All areas that was still a little damp and had more matting than the leaf blower could handle

Already thinking of doing the other piece of the backyard which I had fenced off for the dogs. Perhaps a spring renovation?
I also put a new patio down 3 weekends ago, and through some seed down (hand watering when needed) but not expecting much.

That looks fantastic! Great work. Gotta be a good feeling putting the sprinklers away.

I will give you some caution, just because I did it this spring...the spring Renos are tough. I had such weed pressure, I’m still dealing with the fallout of tackling crabgrass all spring and summer.

It can be done, just don’t expect fall results.
