9/21 and we just got a nice layer of frost last night.

Got a bad feeling it’s going to be a wild winter!

We got it too in south central PA. Let's hope this winter is mild, but I've got my plow and the cab on my tractor ready to go!

Near-Miss here on the Lower Hudson Valley floor, although I suspect the higher elevations of my area got hit.

Had light frost Saturday and Sunday. Only noticed it on my windshield not grass.
This morning....different story. Temp dipped to 32.
Grass had a nice coating of frost....and so it begins...
Oh but wait, this is New England.
Temps are predicted to be in the upper 70's by Wednesday.

Was the coldest night of the season here in Bedford, NH, too. Our thermometer only went down to 34F (it's in a shaded spot), but the portions of the lawn with a lot of sky exposure had very light frost on the blades of grass, and there was a skim coat of light frost on the car roof and windshield.

That puts us roughly on track with seasonal norms here in southern NH. It doesn't officially count as "first frost" for our location with it having remained above 32F, but winter's coming, with tomorrow being the autumnal equinox.

Our "average first frost" date is September 26th, so we're basically on track locally here. Tonight's forecast is about the same as last night, so there's a possibility we might make the milestone tonight. If not, the week-long forecast will postpone "actual first frost" to after the 26th.

But, as we all know, the actual first frost doesn't have an impact upon our cool season grasses. Well, other than putting an end to the crabgrass, which really can't tolerate frost...

Close, but no banana here. Even the Melampodium (dislikes temps under 35) made it through fine. The temp in my garden at 5 AM was just reaching 34.5 but frost never formed.

Some people say it did in the lower areas, but I'm at the top of a really, really large hill.
