Bird house or not

Today I heard some banging sound from the gutters of my house, it turned out some birds are trying to find a weak spot to build their nest. My question is should I install a bird house near by to avoid any potential damage they may cause to my house or just leave them alone and they will eventually leave. Right now they seem not wanting to leave, lol!

Unless they’re woodpeckers, they’re not normally looking to nest inside your home, at least in my experience. I have seen birds nest in the attic vents though. But most birds, woodpeckers aside, aren’t drilling into your house to get inside. Even in the case of woodpeckers, I suspect your first concern should be termites or carpenter ants. (They peck looking for food)

That said, the answer you seek will depend on the type of bird.

I can't name the birds but they are not woodpeckers. I had one woodpecker hammering on the house a couple of years ago, I bought an owl and that took care of it.

I know Im late to the party but it is not uncommon for starlings to try to build nests in my gutters right inside the downspout. Every year one or two of them end up sliding down and get trapped. They are the only cavity nesting birds I have ever seen try to nest in gutters. You do not want to build a house for them as they are invasive. The more you have around your place the less native birds you will have. Unfortunately they are out of control and taking over.
