So . . .

I didn't end up doing the age group national champions for a variety of reasons, but kept doing triathlons. I've done a bunch of sprint distances and a few Olympic distances.

I was working up to a half ironman distance. They couldn't call it that because ironman is trademarked and they don't want to pay to use the term, so they call it a 70.3 and everybody knows (1.2 miles swim plus 56 miles on the bike plus 13.1 miles run equals 70.3 miles total). So I was trying to increase my distances, hoping to get to 70.3 by September of this year.

I rode my bike to the pool on November 3, swam for about a half hour and started home. After about a half mile, a truck ran a stop sign and put a sudden stop to my ride.

I've been bouncing back and forth between the hospital and a couple of rehab facilities since then. I'm scheduled to go home this Friday (finally) but won't be able to swim for a while because I've got a tube draining my gall bladder into a bag outside my body and can't swim with that.

There's no way I'll be ready for a 70.3 by September. If I'm really lucky, I'll be able to do an Olympic distance, but a sprint is more realistic (and even that might be a stretch).

I now know what people mean when they say "it felt like I got hit by a truck." It's definitely not a fun activity. If you have a choice abs option 1 is getting hit by a truck, pick option 2. I don't know what option 2 is, but it's got to be better than getting hit by a truck.

I got home yesterday. First time I've slept in my bed since November 3.

I've come along way but still have a long way to go.
