Vigoro Fertilzers and Scott's Turfbuilder
I'm sick of spending close to 50 bucks for a bag of Lesco Fertilizer. I like Scott's Starter and I like Vigoro Super Green. However, has anyone had any experience with the following:
Regular Vigoro Lawn Fertilizer - about 29 bucks for the big bag (15k coverage).
http://www.homedepot.com/Vigoro/h_d1/N- ... DPXVKDpiSo
Regular Scott's Turf Builder - about 32 bucks at the moment for the big bag (15k coverage).

As always, thanks for your help in advance!

What is the NPK in the Lesco you use to buy?

Regular Scotts Turf Builder always worked well for me. No complaints. Just don't drop it int he dead of summer.

Agree, both are fine choices for Fall feedings.

Buy the numbers not the name. There are plenty of cheap fertilizers out there. Look around at garden centers or even Walmart.

Thanks. I always look at the numbers, how much slow release nitrogen, etc... Thanks!simpson wrote:Buy the numbers not the name. There are plenty of cheap fertilizers out there. Look around at garden centers or even Walmart.

Re: Vigoro Fertilzers and Scott's Turfbuilder
I was told by the guy down at Home Depot that Vigoro is produced by Scotts. Not sure if that's true or not, but says something about fertilizers. I have used both Scotts and Vigoro in the past, in fact I still use Vigoro Starter in the fall, with decent success. I really never could tell the difference between them.
The previous posters are right though, shop by the numbers and forget about the brand.

If everything else were EXACTLY the same (NPK values per k, quick release vs slow release, price, etc) I'd be partial to Scott's if only because their partical sizes were smaller. It probably doesn't matter, but visually it seems that I'm spreading things down more evenly.
But few things are even really identical like that. I'd get whatever your soil needs and what gets your the best bang for your buck.

I do like the Scotts Turfbuilder Green Max - 5.75% iron content, 22-2-2. Don't spill on the driveway.

Re: Vigoro Fertilzers and Scott's Turfbuilder
I just picked up a few bags of the Vigoro Super Green to go down this Fall. 35-0-5. The extra potassium I need anyway.

I like the particle size as well. More slow release with the Tutf Builder as well. I'm going with that. Sixteen bucks cheaper than the Lesco. My big objection to Scott's is not the product but the advertising, In this economy I need to suck it up.simpson wrote:+1 for the scotts partical size.

I have to admit I like that Scott's product as well. So basically I like Scott's Super Max, Starter and plain Turbuilder. I like their bagged topsoil as well and their Ortho line of products. The rest of their products are for my neighbors who don't know any better and put down Scott's Summerguard in a heatwave and drought cause the bag says it's okaygotcrabgrass wrote:I do like the Scotts Turfbuilder Green Max - 5.75% iron content, 22-2-2. Re: Vigoro Fertilzers and Scott's Turfbuilder
I was thinking recently of mixing up my pre-M's and throwing in Scotts for an early or late summer second wave crabgrass killer, I've been using Dimension pretty successfully for the past few years, maybe give their Halts chemicals a try.
The thing that worries me most about Scotts is the mass production, my thoughts are anything produced on such a large scale can't possibly have the best quality. Goes with my thinking on beers, accounting programs, chickens, anything else out there proclaiming to be the biggest, or actually is the biggest.
